William T. Blodgett

William T. Blodgett ou William Tilden Blodgett, nado no ano 1823 en Nova York e finado o 4 de novembro de 1875, foi un empresario e coleccionista de arte da cidade de Nova York que tivo un papel decisivo na fundación do Museo Metropolitano de Arte.

Traxectoria

Estivo activo na guerra civil americana e organizou o Club da Liga da Unión de Nova York e a Feira sanitaria para recadar fondos para os feridos. Fundou o xornal The Nation e foi un líder no establecemento do Museo Americano de Historia Natural. En 1869 foi membro fundador do comité para formar o Museo Metropolitano de Arte (Met), pertencera ao comité de selección das obras americanas para seren presentadas na exposición francesa de 1867 e xa que logo, en 1870 sabía o suficiente para adquirir pinturas no estranxeiro para o museo recentemente fundado.

Comprou un total de 174 cadros que financiou xunto con John Taylor Johnson e aproximadamente a metade desta «compra de 1871» atópase aínda no museo.
