English: c/n 06022. Built 1953 and delivered to Air France as F-BGNZ. Withdrawn from service in January 1954 following the loss of BOAC Comet G-ALYP and the temporary grounding of all BOAC Comets. Returned to de Havilland for modifications but the loss of G-ALYY in April caused all Comet flying to cease. Converted to 1XB standard at Chester and flew again as such in November 1957, registered as G-APAS. Used for trials work on infra-red guidance equipment, she was given the military serial XM823 in February 1958.
Retired in 1967, she joined the RAF Museum collection in 1968 and was stored at Shawbury until moving to Cosford in 1978 painted in BOAC colours to fit in with the British Airways Collection.
She is now on display in Hangar 1 at the RAF Museum Cosford, Shropshire, UK.
