The reception which this remarkable document found from thetwo allies corresponded in no respect to the ecstatic sentiment of itsauthor. The least difficulty was made by King Frederick WilUam,out of personal friendship for the emperor, and because he could notdo without him as a friend to his exhausted state, encompassed byenemies and envious people.
