Reino Unido no Festival de Eurovisión
O Reino Unido é un dos países con máis participacións no Festival da Canción de Eurovisión. Gañaron en 5 ocasións (1967, 1969, 1976, 1981 e 1997) e quedaron un total de 15 veces en segunda posición, sendo o país que máis segundos lugares obtivo.[1]

A 2014, Reino Unido é segundo país que leva máis anos participando ininterrompidamente no certame, facéndoo desde 1959.[2] Debutou en 1957 e unicamente ausentouse en 1956 e 1958.

Festivais celebrados no Reino Unido editar
O Reino Unido organizou o festival en oito ocasións. Ademais das ocasións nas que lle correspondía celebrar o festival por gañar o ano anterior (salvo 1970 que se celebrou nos Países Baixos), o Reino Unido foi o encargado de organizar os festivais de 1960, 1963, 1972 e 1974[3]
Intentos de participación por separado editar
O Partido Nacional Escocés fixo campaña por un posto no Festival de Eurovisión para Escocia, pero foi rexeitado en numerosas ocasións porque Escocia xa está representado como parte do Reino Unido pola BBC. O 11 de febreiro de 2008, a UER declarou que un organismo de radiodifusión escocés podería solicitar a membresía da UER, pero non podería entrar no Festival de Eurovisión xa que a BBC ten os dereitos exclusivos para representar a todo o Reino Unido.
O 25 de novembro de 2013, o goberno escocés publicou un anteproxecto de referendo que detallaba os plans para a transferencia da BBC de Escocia ao Servizo de Radiodifusión escocés (SBS) e unirse á UER, para participar nas competicións, incluída a entrada de Escocia no Festival de Eurovisión. Aínda así o seu debut tería que ser mínimo no 2017.[4][5][6] Porén, no referendo do 18 de setembro de 2014 de independencia non gañou o independentismo, polo que Escocia segue formando parte do Reino Unido, e con el, os dereitos da BBC de representar todo o Reino Unido, incluíndo Escocia.
