Cando Counts traballou con [[Lou Alta Melton]] para crear unha ''Sociedade Americana de Mulleres Enxeñeiras e Arquitectas'', escribiu a todas as universidades estadounidenses con departamentos de enxeñería para saber cantas mulleres eran estudantes. As respostas destacaron polo elevado número delas que dicían que “esta universidade non ten nin espera que teña alumnas de enxeñaría”. A pesar da gran cantidade de respostas negativas, resultou que había unhas 200 alumnas nos cursos de enxeñaría.
