O bilurico común é unha ave moi espallada nas zonas temperadas de Eurasia. É unha [[migración das aves|ave migratoria]], que inverna nas costas arredor do Mediterráneo, na costa atlántica europea desde Irlanda e Gran Bretaña cara ao sur (incluíndo Galicia), e no sur de Asia. Fóra destas áreas poden aparecer como aves errantes pouco comúns; en [[Palau]] en [[Micronesia]] por exemplo, a especie foi rexistrada na metade da década de 1970 e en 2000.<ref name=Wiles2004/>
 
Son aves cautelosas e ruidosas que dan a alerta a todos os demais se hai perigo coa súa chamada alta e piante. Igual que a maioría dos limícolas, aliméntanse de pequenos [[invertebrado]]s.
