In 711 the Moors [[Umayyad conquest of Hispania|invaded]] the Iberian Peninsula from [[North Africa]] and called the territory [[Al-Andalus]], which at its peak included most of modern-day [[Spain]], [[Portugal]], and [[Septimania]].
