Entre os fotógrafos máis importantes da guerra está Mathew Brady. Brady e os seus axudantes viaxaron co Exército da Unión, traballando en estudos instalados en vagóns. A pesar das grandes dificultades e riscos que corrían, conseguiron tomar máis de 3500 fotos dos campos de batalla e dos soldados durante as actividades cotiás.
