Traxectoria

Na década de 1930 integrou á Fronte Popular Antifascista en Francia, e participou na guerra civil española ao lado das forzas republicanas. Despois da segunda guerra mundial, foi nomeado por Charles de Gaulle como ministro de Información, entre o 1945 e o 1946. Tamén foi ministro de Estado entre o 1958 e o 1959, e ministro da cultura entre o 1959 e o 1969. Recibiu o Premio Goncourt en 1933.
