Football League Championship

O Football League Championship (oficialmente Sky Bet Championship por motivos de patrocinio), tamén coñecida no Reino Unido como Championship, é a segunda máxima categoría de liga de clubs de fútbol de Inglaterra, tras a Premier League.

O Football League Championship foi fundado na tempada 2004-05, sendo previamente coñecido coma Football League First Division.

Sistema de competición editar

A liga está formada por 24 equipos. Durante a tempada, que se xoga anualmente de agosto a maio do ano seguinte, cada equipo xoga dúas veces contra os outros equipos da liga, unha vez en casa e outra fóra, xogando 46 partidos en total. Gáñanse tres puntos por unha vitoria, un punto por un empate, e cero por unha derrota. Os equipos ordénanse na clasificación por puntos conseguidos, despois por diferenza de goles, despois por número de goles anotados e despois polos partidos xogados entre si nesa tempada. No caso de que dous equipos empaten en todas esas categorías, os equipos son ordenados por orde alfabética, excepto se está en xogo un posto de ascenso, descenso ou playoffs. Nese caso, os dous equipos xogan un partido de desempate, feito que nunca se deu ata o momento.[1]

Ó remate da tempada, os dous primeiros clasificados e o gañador dos playoffs ascenden á Premier League, e os últimos tres equipos descenden á Football League One. Os playoffs do Football League Championship xóganse entre os equipos clasificados entre o 3º e o 6º posto, xogando o 3º contra o 6º e o 4º contra o 5º, en eliminatorias a dobre partido. Os gañadores de cada semifinal xogan entre eles un só partido para conseguir o ascenso á Premier e o trofeo do Championship.

Os tres equipos ascendidos son substituídos para a seguinte tempada polos tres últimos equipos na Premier League, e os tres descendidos son substituídos polos dous primeiros clasificados da League One e o gañador da final dos playoffs da League One.
